Pregnancy is a time of rapid growth, development, and change — not just for your baby, but for your entire body. Nutrition during this period plays a crucial role in supporting fetal development, maternal health, and long-term wellness for both mother and child. As your body works harder to nourish your baby, your nutritional needs increase, particularly for key nutrients like folate, iron, calcium, iodine, and omega-3 fatty acids.
Folate is essential for preventing neural tube defects in early pregnancy, while iron supports increased blood volume and reduces the risk of anemia. Calcium and vitamin D are important for fetal bone development, and omega-3 fatty acids (especially DHA) play a vital role in brain and eye development. Additionally, adequate protein intake is necessary to support tissue growth, including the placenta and uterus.
